Like Hiragana: Thoughts on Navigating the Body (2023)
Like Hiragana: Thoughts on Navigating the Body is Mirano's Master's thesis at the Critical Inquiry Lab, Design Academy Eindhoven. The year-long endeavor aims to reevaluate one’s understanding and expression of selfhood and corporeality by delving into the conceptual realm of Hiragana, the Japanese phonetic alphabet.
Adaptability is paramount in today's dynamic landscape, marked by economic shifts and the post-COVID era. Historically shaped by women, Hiragana became Mirano's source of inspiration, a symbol of embracing openness amidst contemporary flux.
Unveiling her exploration through four pillars—quasistatic, magic, secret, and flatness—and applying a playful autofictional format, Mirano showcases how to draw wisdom from these linguistic elements. The work encourages a fresh perspective, inviting readers on an insightful journey through the complexities of life.
